dAIEdge project officially commences as 36 European partners convene in Germany
The inaugural meeting of the European Network of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence at the Edge was held on 5 and 6 September in Kaiserslautern, Germany, at the headquarters of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), which is the project’s coordinating entity.
The meeting was convened to lay the groundwork for the project’s activities. The representativesin attendance became acquainted with the role of each partner through a series of presentations. Moreover, the representatives jointly defined the roadmap for the coming months and the members of the executive committee were elected.
The dAIEdge project hopes to achieve sustained competitiveness in Distributed Edge AI technologies across Europe through the collaboration of its 36 partners from Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
Fostering the growth of the Artificial Intelligence community will be the foremost objective of the partners. dAIEdge will forge links between diverse digital innovation hubs, incubators, and industry clusters. Such a collaborative innovation space will bring forth out-of-the-box ideas, innovative tools, and services, helping create a strong and competitive European ecosystem.
In addition to contributing to the development of next generation Edge AI technologies, the partners will strive to promote their market adoption. In pursuit of this objective, the dAIEdge network of excellence will keep track of the state of research, emerging trends, and perspectives, ultimately ensuring that Artificial Intelligence is able to provide solutions to a progressively wider range of sectors.
To meet the project targets, the dAIEdge Project has a budget of 14.4 million euros, of which 10.7 million are funds appointed by the European Union. The funds will be allocated to the multiple project activitiesto be accomplished over the next three years. These activities are grouped under a total of eight work packages and focus on coordination, the European strategic agenda, roadmapping for Edge AI research and innovation, driving the next generation of Edge AI applications and technologies, collaborative innovation, sustainable development, and communication and dissemination results.
